Sant’Anna Monument
A silent clearing, nestled in the green embrace of the woods, houses a cube that transforms from a solid material presence into a contemplative body of water. This pure concrete form, centrally placed within an open-air chamber outlined and framed by vegetation, invites the observer to gaze upward through its water surface, sparking a moment of meditation.
This is an invitation to quietude and to rediscover the memory and everyday life of the place. Here, one can sense the rhythmic pace of rural life, where time flows slowly, and silence is gently broken by the rustling of leaves and birdsong.
Recalling a traditional gathering point, this structure resembles a modern washhouse, a communal space transformed into a place to pause and let one’s gaze drift across the calm surface of the water. It is an intimate retreat where thoughts settle, and the spirit opens up to the profound peace of the woods. A sanctuary of silence, it invites immersion and self-reflection.
The cube integrates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, engaging in dialogue with nature and enhancing its beauty. It serves as a point for reflection on the meaning of existence, the beauty of simplicity, and the value of time, encouraging a rediscovery of the roots and identity of the community. This is a precious gift, a special place for finding harmony and connection with both nature and oneself.
The project was developed in collaboration with the Progettare la Memoria Masterclass from the University of Pisa.
