Librairie Marian Goodman
Marian Goodman Gallery represents leading contemporary artists such as Gerhard Richter, Thomas Struth, Richard Deacon, Steve McQueen, Tacita Dean, Juan Muñoz, Gabriel Orozco, Dan Graham, Jeff Wall & Anette Messager.
OMMX were invited to design Librairie Marian Goodman, a new gallery and bookshop located in the Marais, Paris. In creating the Librairie, the client wanted to build a new forum for art, criticism and commerce to coexist. We worked closely with the client and graphic designers APFEL to create a holistic identity for the Librairie, from its architecture through to furniture, signage, labelling and packaging.
The design is drawn from the construction of a book and is entirely produced from folded metal profiles, as an economic and rapid means of construction. The central table is a series of extruded book stands, which support a curated selection of delicately suspended books. Additional stock can be found on a shelf immediately below the table top. The bookcase is supported by columns which reference the spine of a book, albeit in reverse. These not only provide structural support, but double up as book dividers, which expand to form alcoves for the display of rare editions and art. The peg wall consists of a series of reconfigurable components for flexible display. The design was produced in a matter of weeks to meet a demanding schedule in preparation for the Librairie's opening with an Anette Messager show.
