Amenities for a housing Project in Chapala
Located near Lake Chapala (Mexico's largest lake) and in a patch of large trees surrounded by a housing development, lays our project for two archetypical structures which harbor amenities of various kind.
Our project takes inspiration on the materials and vernacular architecture of the area.
Lake Chapala is Mexico's largest lake and a known getaway for both national and international retirees. Due to this constant demand of housing and for its vicinity with Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city, Chapala has a constant and fruitful housing market.
We were commissioned to design the amenities for a small housing project. The 5-acre plot is closed by a small creek on its east flank and has several patches of 22-meter-high trees.
Preserving this vegetation that creates shade and a perfect microclimate for outdoor activities was the main design concept for the amenities. Our project needed to be able to let the users enjoy of the benefits of its natural surroundings while giving protection and privacy for more local reunions or activities.
Taking inspiration from the local vernacular architecture our project is made of two different volumes. Both share a similar layout using pilotis on the ground floor to create an open and public space with direct views to the surrounding nature, while the top floors are marked by large lime covered walls that leave for a more quiet and private enclosures.
