FOAM ME are pieces of furniture which, thanks to their unique form, answer different functions depending on the sides they are positioned on. They are made of recycled polyurethane foam offering comfort and stability to its users.
FOAM ME is a piece of furniture developed for the Salone del Mobile 2017 during the exhibition "The New Readymade" curated by NOV Gallery at the Spazio Rossana Orlandi.
FOAM ME originates from our fascination for polyurethane foam. This last is generally used in the construction world as well as in daily life objects such as sofas or mattresses. Although the aesthetic qualities of this material are intriguing, it is always covered by another material. Therefore, it became clear that it was an interesting material to develop into a unique piece of furniture which demonstrates the potential of the material itself. Numerous researches led us to discover a company that recycles polyurethane, offering a new form and life to this plastic polymer. Thanks to the company’s process, the recycled polyurethane foam can become extremely dense allowing the creation of different forms and offering diverse constructive possibilities.
Nowadays, furniture pieces generally answer one function in particular; a chair to sit on, a table to work on, a cupboard on which to place books… Rarely do we find pieces that are able to address all of these functions within one unique object. With this observation, we decided to develop an object that can position itself on its different sides in order to offer different possibilities of use. In order to offer users a free interpretation of the piece of furniture, we have freed ourselves from conventional forms and created an abstract form.
FOAM ME is an object composed of three plates of recycled polyurethane foam that assemble each other thanks to constructive metallic details. The diversity of the material’s colors permits to create unique pieces of furniture customizable according to the tastes of the users.
