Apartments in Zeeburgereiland
XML has completed the design for 27 apartments on Zeeburgereiland in Amsterdam. The building has a spectacular floor to ceiling glass facade that offers residents a wide view of the IJmeer. A large sliding door provides access to a large balcony.
XML was commissioned to design the project in the midst of the financial crisis. As a result, the challenge for the project was to create a distinctive architecture with a very low construction budget. By using prefabricated elements and inventive detailing, it was possible to realize a full glass facade.
The sunblinds and openings for natural ventilation are subtly concealed behind the aluminum panels in the facade to strengthen the architectural image of a full glass facade.
The building is one of the first residential buildings in this new Amsterdam neighbourhood.
