Pedro Salmerón Escobar
Born in Granada (Spain), he graduated as an architect in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid in 1970 and worked as a freelance architect as from that date. From 1973 till 1987 he was lecturer in the History of Building and Architectural Buildings in the School of Technical Architecture of Granada University. Director of the Plan General de Bienes Culturales (General Plan of Cultural Items), 1989-1995, technical director of the same plan during. the period of updating and revision, 1996-2000, co-director of the Plan de Archivos de Andalucía (Plan of the Archives in Andalusia) (1988-89), codirector of the Plan de Calidad de los Museos Andalucía (Plan of Excellence of Andalusian Museums) (2002) and editor of the Planes Directores de las Catedrales de Granada y Jaén (Guidelines for the Cathedrals of Granada and Jaén) (2000).
Organizer of the Exhibition Renaissance Architecture in Andalusia. Andrés de Vandelvira and his time, held in Jaén Cathedral (1992). Coordinator of the Guide to Architecture in Lima (Peru) in the Programme of International Cooperation (General Directory of Architecture and Housing. Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia).
He has carried out work on the protection of urban planning in the historical area of Granada. From 2002-2004 he was the technical director of the Guide to the Cultural Landscape of the Ensenada de Bolonia, assigned by the Instituto Andaluz de Patrimonio Histórico (Andalusian Institute of Historical Patrimony). At present he is the conservator of the cathedrals of Granada and Jaén, and is the restorer in different Andalusian monuments: the Alhambra (The water circuit of the Court of the Lions and paving it with Macael white marble), the Metropolitan Curia of Granada, the Castle of Vélez Blanco in Almería and the Palace of the Madraza in Granada, among others. He has also directed the Guidelines for the Alhambra (2007-2020). He was awarded the prize Andalucía de Patrimonio Andrés de Vandelvira (1999). He presented his doctoral thesis in 2013 about the optimisation of scientific and technical procedures for the cultural heritage restoration.
