Science Data Management Centre, Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, Zeuthen
Rarely can a research campus boast such an idyllic location as DESY in the Berlin suburb of Zeuthen - the entire site has direct access to a tranquil lake and an abundance of trees. Yet the campus is one of the largest scientific facilities in Brandenburg and a national centre for astroparticle physics.
In the future, it will also be the scientific centre of the new international observatory 'Cherenkov Telescope Array'.
In Zeuthen, a new data management centre will be built with a catering area for events to evaluate and process the data collected by the observatory in Chile and on La Palma. The two staggered functional areas form a three-storey building that forms a square in the centre of the site and opens up to the adjacent lake. The new building will further establish DESY as a centre of science and a first-class place to work.
