HOUSE W
The external appearance of the single-family home in an upscale residential area in Munich is discreet and unobtrusive.
The simplicity of the façade is subtly broken up, on the one hand, by the rhythm of the vertical wooden cladding and, on the other hand, by deliberately placed recesses. These expand individual window elements or combine them to create a harmonious structure in the overall views of the sides of the building. This opened the possiblity that the window sizes could be chosen sensibly depending on the location, size, desired exposure and protection against overheating, without making any compromises in design.
The clear architectural language can also be found in the interior. It provided the basis for developing finely coordinated details for the interior design in close collaboration with “stephanie tatenhorst – interior” and thus allowing the individuality of the residents to be expressed. The special colors and materials are matched with each other and the respective rooms with great sensitivity.
On the ground floor, an open, bright and spatial sequence of public and private arrival, work, cooking, eating and living is arranged around a free-standing cube. This green-stained wooden core houses different functions that are integrated almost invisibly and expand the neighboring usage zones: Opposite the kitchen island the cube offers space for a sideboard, kitchen appliances and storage space, and opposite the dining area there is an exhibition wall for art. Towards the access corridor, additional adjoining rooms and an elevator are lined up, disguised as a detailed wall unit.
A straight staircase leads to the upper floor alongside a wall on which daylight shines down through a stair-length skylight. It is where the private rooms are located. The bedroom with an open dressing room as a transition zone to the bathroom, including the shower area, invites you to a walk with a variety of paths.
Arriving at the bottom of the stairs to the basement, you will be welcomed by the glass-enclosed wine cellar, which, thanks to its furnishings and lighting, contributes to giving the overall high-quality and brightly designed basement a homely feel.
A strong interweaving of the interior and exterior spaces is created by a floor-to-ceiling, almost full-surface corner opening on the ground floor. A free-standing fireplace with fireplaces inside and outside and continuous cladding made of natural stone slabs further emphasizes this.
The pool is the central element within the “inner courtyard situation” that the residential building with its covered terrace spans together with the pool house and its sun deck in front with the outdoor kitchen. This area is adjoined by extensive natural garden areas with a large variety of plants, shrubs and beds. The various seating and lounging options, some sunny, some protected from wind and weather, invite you to use the outdoor area all year round.
In terms of area expansion, the building makes full use of the property's current development law but would still allow for subsequent expansion by adding a staggered floor. Since this possibility was considered right from the start, it was able to be integrated into the current planning in such a way that it is not visible and yet it could be realized in the future with the least possible effort.
The house is also designed to be barrier-free, so that it enables comfortable living in all phases of life.
The residential building is equipped for the future with the building technology concept consisting of air heat pump, photovoltaic system, peak load gas boiler, controlled ventilation system with heat recovery and cooling ceilings.
