School
The new volume for preschool and primary school students will be provided with a continuous skin with differentiated facade openings. The aim is to make the appearance of the new, innovative school not rigid, but fun and dynamic. The facades must literally connect the open program and must approve the variable use within the building. The different dimensions and heights of the facade openings are matched to the desired atmosphere and the intended use in the spaces behind (lower windows for the youngest children, facade openings at railing height in the work niches, large window openings where a wide view is available...). The sheet material in blue color gives the new volumes a fresh look and provides the necessary contrast with the existing, massive buildings on the site.
The pedagogical concept for BLIK Primary School! makes a distinction between 3 groups: one for the little ones and the other two for primary school students. In the design, each residential group is assigned a construction layer: the little ones use the ground floor and the pupils of the primary school are divided over floors +1 and floors +2. Separate places are created in the open learning center for preschool children by means of furniture and mobile elements. These instruction rooms take the form of freestanding, circular seating furniture in which the toddlers of one group can gather.
The various open learning centers are located on the first and second floors at the ends of the main building. Each open learning center is equipped with a fixed piece of furniture that suggestively divides the space and allows variable use of the residual space. The fixed piece of furniture consists of a cubic or cross-shaped volume, adapted to the needs of each living group.
The open learning centers are connected by a learning street that is charged by means of a cupboard wall. In this wall work niches have been created where the students can work independently. The central gallery makes the connection between floor +1 and floor +2. The primary school students are allowed to circulate freely between both levels and can also do this via a staircase that is part of the grandstand. The chill out zone is located under the slope of the stand and is an enclosed space where students can make music, for example. An additional idea is that the pupils and teachers can fully decorate and furnish this space according to themes that will be discussed during the school year.
