Espacio Escultórico de la UNAM
Massive modernist sculpture in the ecological reserve of the Ciudad Universitaria UNAM de Mexico City, DF.
Opened on April 23, 1979, the Sculptural Space arose as an idea of the sculptor Federico Silva in 1977, with the purpose of capturing the plastic arts and the geometric sculptural movement in Mexico in a natural environment. The center of this space is located in the area of the University Cultural Center, on a natural land surface. It is made up of two parts, a rigging platform and a series of geometric figures. Its outer diameter is 120 meters, while the inner area measures 92.78 meters, with a platform width of 13.61 meters. This platform is built from volcanic stone on which a series of rectangular base modules of 9x3 meters with a height of 4 meters is raised. The resulting complex is a representation, with prehispanic references, of the cosmos, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Pedregal.
