G’vine stand for ARCOmadrid 2016 offers visitors a classic art challenge of many times and places: try to distinguish reality from fiction, the material and the physic from daydreams and desires. Visitors entry persuaded, by distant appearances, they are coming into a urban apartment in Paris or in any other city in France. But when they are inside of the stall, they will discover that it is difficult to know if they are inside an apartment, overlooking an outdoor garden, or outside, watching others privacy from a window. They are not sure about the balcony: does it allow warm air flows from the inside to go out in the city? is that what makes the curtains blow? or it is, in fact, bringing fresh air from outside branches filling in the interior with botanic essences?. They can not ensure whether they are watching a small greenhouse just behind the bar, or they are either inside the greenhouse remembering the home warmth. If our visitors pay more attention they will discover fire and gardens enclosed in bottles.
To design this space we inspired in many of the things that have also inspired the G´Vine brand. Among of many inspirations we want to highlight:
Inspiration in botanical research and nature. Our design work tries to make compatible vernacular and rural architecture with innovation. G´Vine has a similar philosophy combining traditional farming techniques with elaborate botanical experimentation. That has led them to create the world’s unique Gin made from grapes. We believe that this attitude draws a sustainable and exciting future for Europe’s rural environments.
Estrangement of the daily objects. G´vine understands urban life in an alternative way. Our work shares this design philosophy. Our architecture and products are based on an understanding of what we call the 3rd industrialization: it is much cheaper an umbrella that comes from China than one made in the closest workshop. Our architecture, instead of using new materials integrates many recycled objects. We look at everything that surround us as if everything could be transformed into something else.
Europe and culture. In Europe, the importance of culture is embedded in everything we do. Europe has everything it needs, it cares about quality and gives for granted the principles derived from social democracy. These logic penetrates our projects. Each object is intense… it is full of design, references and precedents, it has a recognizable culture behind.
