Maharashtra Nature Park and Pedestrian Bridge over the Mithi River
International Competition

The Mithi’s rebirth
The Maharashtra Nature Park and its bridge will represent a model in how a bio-diverse area such as this can be enhanced while it’s also preserved. Our project it’s a successful and balanced fusion of the built structures and the landscape.
The suggested improvements aim to generate interest, to set a precedent, to be an archetype for approaching the issue in nearby sites and to mark the start of the rehabilitation of the environment around the Mithi river.
The new built architectures respect both the river edges and the park. All necessary elements are sculpturally integrated into a composition that carefully frames space, place, functions and view. Our core idea is to merge the bridge and most of the park amenities in one delicate gesture in order to keep its ecological integrity unharmed.
A gesture that aims not only to connect the river two sides but also to reinforce people’s sense of cohabitation and area sharing. From a distance the observer will not immediately identify the bridge and the observation tower within the park, as they will both blend in the thick forest area that surrounds them.
To further minimize the visual and environmental impact, the bridge sides are covered in jute ropes that act both as a camouflage and as a beneficial shading device.
The new Knowledge Centre it’s located under the bridge and will be a state of the art facility that will also act as the getaway to the park.
