Canteen, Veracruz, Mexico
The area is dominated by a big cuban / carribean influence and the Palapa (a hut built in coco wood and palm leaves roof) is quite a common way to build.
When we were briefed about a new canteen to be built for a major steel tubes mill, we thought it could be interesting to introduce this typology into a steel plant and see how it worked with the surrounding mills and the office buildings.
We consequently decided to design two eat-rooms inside two palapas of different size and concentrate all the technology and facilities inside a square plan, aluminium panelled building containing kitchen, services, facilities, restrooms etc.
