Galvanized Steel Temporal Pavillion, INTERVALO 2016
Intervalo Exhibition is an instance where annually the projects and researches of various academic units and research centers of the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urban Studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile are exposed, and with this issue is defined curatorship under the slogan "City, Mobility and People".
In line with this slogan, the project for the assembly was aimed to building a kind of urban infrastructure that would support the different formats of the sample within the art exhibition room. Something like a piece of the city into an environment for which is not accustomed.
The construction of the "infrastructure" seeks to be related to those elements that make up the urban environment and to some extent, define the image of mobility; as notices routes, the whereabouts of bus, walkways, porches highways, etc. linking through the material condition of these, where the galvanized steel structure and embodies most of these parts or objects.
One structural part repeated 25 times every 50 cms. configures a space that covers the entire length of the room, leaving two fronts and an interior exposure for video projection at each end. The structure was executed with galvanized profiles commonly used for construction of partitions, used in its entire length, allowing to optimize resources, speed of execution and intentionally reducing the task was just unite, avoiding cuts and thus loss of material.
The section of the project formed an irreducible part on its structural type, and where constructive solution is what ends up qualifying the pavilion spatially. Each element has an specific function within the total, being braced by the arrangement of its elements in one direction and the other through the incorporation of perforated chipboards, which on one hand sustained the sample and on the other hand, set the inside of the pavilion.
The structure rests on a series of standard precast concrete pieces, which fold down to create a diagonal support that defines the slope of the pillars of the structure, transforming into wedges, which by its shape and weight, lock the system.
The use of standard materials without altering its dimensions and united only by screws, allows the pavilion, or portions thereof, could be quickly removed and to be reused in different functions or the same configuration linked to another location or use, allowing the material volume after the sample reinventing and not to become waste.
