The design is based on the primitive typology of traditional local housing in Shouxian, Anhui. Inspired by the traditional typology, the art center introduces a series deep courtyards in different scale to create a natural environment by providing ventilation and natural sunlight. Also the courtyards work as public space to organize multiple programs and series of space in the complex. The three dimensional courtyard system blur the boundary of indoor and outdoor, built environment and nature. The local culture also influenced by Chinese garden. Besides the interpretation of solid and void, indoor and outdoor, the project create a wandering loop to connect each program and courtyard, and meanwhile, the path works like long corridor in Chinese garden, leads visitors experience a set of ordered scenarios, this added dimension allows visitors to experience the building in an unexpected way.
