Agora 2.0 library
The competition raises questions on the relations between tradition and modernity. The dematerialization of the graphic media led to a reconsideration of the legibility of the library as a guardian of knowledge that was not so long ago exclusively in books.
The will to translate this duality into spacial entities became evident. Two different shapes but linked, offering to Amalenborg’s neighborhood a new place of interaction and reunion. The library would be an essential element for the identity of the city and its culture, a new “Agora”.
The Agora proposes two types of spaces. On one hand a traditional library located in a big cylindrical volume acting as a reserve of precious books. It represents the ‘HYGGE’ and contains the danish traditions and can also be used as a place of debate, exchange and intellectual stimulation. And on the other hand a 2,0, library, an open space where everyone can gather from morning to noon offering different types of spaces, with the ambition to create a link between everyday life and culture for all the generations : places to read the paper, snack bar, discovery & work spaces.
