This small architecture stands on an oak forest in the hills of Tuscany. In shape, the pavilion resembles a primitive sculpture and being made out of only one material, timber, it is essentially a monument among trees. It has no architectural details: its simplicity and modest dimensions heighten the drama and beauty of the surrounding woods. The reduction and minimalism of architecture is a direct response to the landscape: an instrument that permits its perception. All the views of the property converge in an introverted space for meditation. The sculptural impression of a big diamond-cut wood with four openings is, at the same time, a direct reflection of the interior itself that is designed essentially for contemplative purposes. The feel of the internal room is utterly monolithic. Floor, walls and ceilings all have the same finish. The impression of a hollow space that has been carved out of a solid mass, like a cavern, has been achieved architecturally through spatial and conceptual means.
