Flat Conversion in Granollers, Barcelona
Proprietor wanted to convert a dental clinic to a flat, despite the uncertainty of unknowing who would finally live in it. In response, we prioritised the search for spaces and atmospheres that allow different and customized uses and promote new ways of living.
The flat faces North and South and has a patio that, previously, used to walk a corridor to the different areas of the former clinic.
We wanted to get as much freedom as possible regarding the use of the rooms but defining them clearly. The spaces are large enough to create an ambiguity of purpose without using mobile partitions.
Dividing walls are arranged so to widen the space around the patio, improving its relation with the flat and creating crossed views that strengthen the spaciousness, as well as they delimit possible uses around the patio: a hall after the long entrance corridor, a living room, a reading area, an small dining room, the kitchen...
Our goal was not to achive an open space to be divided but to characterise the rooms by its proportion, materials and natural light. In the end, we expect these spaces will be categorised by the future user.
