CITY CENTER - MARKETPLACE.
How to use new inputs to change urban space?
Architectural project and redesign of public space.
TEAM: Fernando Eiroa Lorenzo, Jorge García Anta, Alberto Seoane Sesar.
The market needs to be redefined in order to encourage a vital commercial attitude. Thereby, this spot would be a starting point to improve its environment and so, locals in the surrounding streets would be better.
On the other hand we need to create flexible urban spaces to be able to adapt them to current and future demandings.
The model is based on Britain's Town Centre Management (TCMs) in which we will find the four As: accessibility, attraction, amenities and action.
The proposal wants to give some rules which enhace this spot.
Therefore it is necessary to change the building into a more permeable one, maximizing the central patio with a new cover and creating another entry which connects the square. This open space wants to be flexible in order to receive the weekly fair, as well as all kind of events. This leaning square can be covered by tarpaulins and also, there is a car park under it.
Two little pavilions demarcate the soft square where we can find an open green space. One of them is a showroom which shows trends that are developing in Fábrica Santo Thyrso. The other one is a social centre where you can hire alternative means of transport to visit the riverside and its marvelous parks.
Finally, two pergolas complete the diagram to foster the commercial life of the streets and even being home to new uses in the near future.
