Descend to inhabit
Finalist in the international architecture competition "Carpineto Mountain Refuge".
The shelter as a building designed to house and protect the climbers and hikers of meteorological elements.
The path as a route, signalized or not, generally passes through the paths and rural roads, to practice the hiking.
The Carpineto trails give the man the experience of perceiving the landscape in horizontally sense. Therefore the idea of installing a container on the floor level is not the way how to operate our proposal, on the other hand it is to be below ground level what interests us here as one of our concerns is to keep the landscape intervened at least possible and maintain that horizontality.
The shelter itself is buried but some of the operations and elements of this appear above the 0 level subtly hinting their presence without being protagonist of the landscape. The refuge is just a constant witness and invites enter to find that which by definition must give the user, shelter, shelter, protection, but also acts as a mechanism to capture the celestial landscape, the sky and throw it into illuminating the space content. The landscape is perceived from within the vertical.
The key commitment in this proposal is the subtle relationship between object and landscape.
