New Public Television Headquarters - Warsaw, Poland - 1st prize in two-stage competition
The composition idea is simple: adding a tall vertical tower to the main low horizontal building. These two simple shapes create an order in the surrounding urban chaos. The newsroom is the key feature of the horizontal building.
Functional solutions - The composition idea is simple: adding a tall vertical tower to the main low horizontal building. These two simple shapes order the surrounding urban chaos.
The newsroom is the key feature of the horizontal building. It is a window to the world, simultaneously allowing a glimpse inside the center of the news organization’s activity, where content is being produced.
The panoramic studio located at the top of the vertical tower dominates the entire project.
Space planning, fostering creation and the best working environment, simultaneously promoting attractive living scenography - Editorial work bases bring together plethora of different people and personalities.
Creating the best working conditions for teamwork and enhanced employee communication is crucial for this office, especially for a large and serious company such as the Public Television.
Both team and individual work are fundamental for this entity and optimal comfort should be provided for these two activities. To achieve this there are different zones within the project and within each zone, an enclave for privacy.
This distinction is particularly important in news editing, where success is based upon the speed an organization can react to information under attractive transmission.
Very often breaking or instant media requires immediate reaction to information and newly released decision making. This is why a properly organized work space is the key to success.

How the function within the building reflects the production of the news
- While designing the building we were looking for a shape that would perfectly combine the editorial aspect of Public TV with the process of creating the television informational material. The right layout can facilitate and even stimulate this act. The right layout will illustrate the creative process of journalism, expressing all stages of the work. Producing information suitable for transmission is not just releasing a rough product, but is a more complex process. Our project implements an open model allowing observation of both the final journalistic result, but also the steps of that journalism. This is done in both architectural and urban scale. The glazing of the building allows the public to see through the façade and know what is going on inside the building. Within the building, people also experience the transparency of the newsroom and the studios. In this urban landscape the project exhibits the TVP image of a transparency and information provider. Inspired by the post-industrial period, we used the nave, as a reference to a factory, where, at different levels, a final product is being made. Offices are located at the top floor, providing eye contact with the production space at the lower nave floor permitting quick response to events as they occur, and allowing production supervision. To which end, such eagle eye supervision permits internal innovation by the company, as processes and events can be observed and tracked over time.
