Single Family House in Český kras
Location:
A plot located in a protected landscape area of Český kras, in a stream valley with northern and southern orientation.
Assignment:
A new house of a rectangular ground plan (7,6 by 12,3m) replaced the original square building (approx. 9 by 9 m). A simple volume is topped with a double-pitched roof. A gable is symmetrical, has identical width and height. A 45° pitched roof bisects the house with a dormer window rising from the flat roof plane. A simple door space volume abuts the north-east corner of the house. The concise form of the house is enhanced by an austere oak-clad facade with folding window shutters covering large windows, with the exception of a non-operable square gable window. The narrow shape of the house allowed for a wooden deck and terrace extending the living area on the ground floor. A wide staircase bridges the stream and connects the terrace to the southerly part of the garden and the driveway. The steep slope behind the house is reinforced by an abutment wall where the northerly section of the garden wall reaches upper floor level.
Constructions and technologies:
The all-wood timber construction is reinforced by OSB panels concurrently serving as a vapour barrier. The wood stud wall system with diffusion foil on the outside is protected against the elements by oak wood cladding of varying widths. The southerly gable wall consists of a truss girder complemented by oblique elements – an anti-sag bar. The roof surface is made of concrete tiles.
