This exhibition 'TOKUJIN YOSHIOKA - Super Fiber Revolution'is going to be a compilation of my experiment and study in fibers for over the last three and a half years. Focusing mainly on the new works that has not yet been released, I will be presenting five features of my works through cloud installation.
It was when I set my eyes on the article in the National Geographic, I became interested to learn more about the possibility of fibers and had a firm vision of the future in my head. The article in the prestigious American magazine mentioned fibers that are blown out like a spider's web, and optical fibers, and spoke about the future of miraculous fibers from a scientific and technological angle.
In the process of my research and development, I was fortunate to encounter Ms Matilda McQuaid, curator of the Copper-Hewitt National Design Museum, who specializes in textiles. I had gained a lot of inspiration and energy from her experimental and creative activities.
Here, I am presenting "Fiber Architecture"; "Rug woven of transparent fibers"; and "Cloud installation with 550,000 transparent straws," which is also designed for windows installation of the Maison Hermes. There is also a new book entitled "Tokujin Yoshioka Design" which is published simultaneously worldwide from the British art publisher PHAIDON. And lastly, I present the "PANE chair" (bread for Italian), which was received high evaluation from oversea at the Milano Salone this year. Its various prototypes are also shown for the very first time.
I would like to continue creating new things, which lead us to the future and bring us excitement, emotion, and dream.
Thank you very much.
