With a growing body of work and international recognition, the practice focuses on housing, furniture design and collaborations with cultural institutions. The studio has developed a contextually precise approach to urban and rural sites. Drawing on social narravties, craft traditions, hortuculture, cinema and contemporary art, the projects emerge in relation to place. A search for joy, beauty and the possibilities of architecture is augmented by teaching and research, which form the backdrop to the practice. Maynard has worked in award-winning offices is is the recipient of national and international awards, including the Byera Hadley Scholarship. He currently leads the AGNSW spatial design team for the Sydney Modern Project designed by SANAA.
