Takeshi Hayatsu is a London-based Japanese architect. After studying architecture in Tokyo, Takeshi moved to the UK to complete his education at the Architectural Association. He worked at David Chipperfield Architects, Haworth Tompkins and 6a architects before establishing his own practice Hayatsu Architects in 2016. Takeshi’s work is characterised by crafted, thoughtful, sensitive and playful approaches tailored to unique situations and requirements of users. Takeshi has worked on many historic buildings and developed a method of creating new spaces seamlessly integrated within the historic contexts through material resolutions and construction techniques. Takeshi combines teaching and practice by working with students on self-build projects for arts organisations, including Dorich House Museum in Kingston Hill, Grizedale Arts in Coniston and Barbican Centre in London. He currently runs postgraduate architecture design studios at Kingston University and Central Saint Martins.
