Other Architects is an architectural practice inspired by the idea of the “other”. Recognising that conventional wisdom is riddled with gaps, we attempt to seek out the other point of view, the alternate solution, the unpopular, the contrary, or the outdated. This approach frees us from the predominant focus on novelty, which compels most architects to disregard established solutions while blindly repeating past mistakes. The apparent immobility and solidity of buildings makes the practice of architecture seem stable and defined. But the social, cultural, economic and environmental conditions surrounding architecture are in constant flux. Accordingly, our role is to engage in ethical speculation about the future, in response to the needs of the present. Other Architects is committed to managing change creatively, and to ethically accommodating uncertainty. We do so through exploring other paths and possibilities.
