Casa Alfarim
The project stems from the desire to build a country house near the beach, south of Lisbon, where the coastal landscape meets the rural dimension. The functional programme is essential: two bedrooms and a common room.
The entire composition is articulated around an existing tree and a designed water mirror, which serves as the visual centre of the house. Around this core, a dialogue is established between the main building, which adopts the materials and proportions of local vernacular architecture, and a pure geometric volume referencing the chapel at Cabo Espichel, a nearby and highly distinctive site.
The intervention seeks simplicity and integration with the surrounding nature. The reflection of the water mirror, the shadows of the tree, and the mutability of the landscape merge with the surfaces of the house, accompanying the light which, as it changes, reveals and measures the passage of time.
