Lake house
Plot
The house was built on a diamond-shaped lot that slopes down toward the lake. While obtaining the building permit, it turned out that only one-quarter of the lot could be used for construction. As mentioned, the plot slopes toward the lake, so we decided to level the portion where the house was to be built. The reinforced concrete retaining wall surrounding this leveled area was given soft lines, reminiscent of the lake’s shoreline.
Materials
The house was designed as a wooden structure clad in anodized aluminum corrugated sheet metal. We were inspired to use this material by the many examples of hangars used to store water sports equipment. This house is precisely such a modern hangar.
It is worth noting that aluminum sheet has many advantages. It provides excellent protection against water and wind, is very easy to maintain, and is an excellent heat reflector. As a result, on hot days, its temperature does not
An old Polish saying goes: “Happy is the home where storks nest.”
The site is located in an area where storks live and nest. Their nests, perched on utility poles and barn roofs, are a characteristic feature of the local landscape and an important symbol of the region.
In the Polish building tradition, special nesting platforms were often placed on house roofs or utility poles—sometimes made from old wagon wheels—to make it easier for storks to build their nests. Inspired by this tradition, we designed a dedicated nesting platform next to the house.
We hope that, in time, it will become a home for these remarkable birds and that their presence will further strengthen the connection between the architecture, the surrounding landscape, and the local cultural heritage.
