VILLA MANZONI
The project involves the restoration, redevelopment, and regulatory compliance of Villa Manzoni in Lecco. The Villa Manzoni complex consists of two main buildings with an adjoining historic garden.
The main building, once the residence of Alessandro Manzoni's family, now houses the Manzoni Museum on the ground floor, along with ancillary services such as a ticket office, cloakroom, and restrooms. The first floor houses the Municipal Art Gallery, art storage, restrooms, and an office area. The main building also includes the recently restored Chapel and the cellars; both are part of the museum itinerary.
Adjacent to the main building are the rustic structures, consisting of an L-shaped building that currently houses the Caretaker's House, several storage areas, and partially unused spaces. Specifically, on the ground floor, the Stables Hall serves as a flexible space for the Manzonian Museum.
The project objectives stem from functional, structural, and architectural needs:
- Overall maintenance of the main building's roof, including reinforcement of the existing load-bearing structures, renovation of the roofing, the rainwater drainage system, and the installation of a lifeline.
- Revision of the main building's vertical distribution through the installation of a new elevator connecting the ground floor to the second attic level, structural consolidation of the vault supporting the new elevator, and reinforcement of the scaffolding within which it is installed. Renovation of the first-floor restrooms and renovation of the wooden ceilings of the second-floor storage areas are also planned.
- Structural reinforcement of the Art-Nouveau staircase along its entire length
- Restoration of the external facades (excluding those facing the garden), the surfaces that make up the internal courtyards of both buildings, and the restoration of the monumental staircase leading to the first floor in the main building.
- Structural consolidation, functional redevelopment, and regulatory compliance of the rooms on the ground floor of the outbuildings (the stables and the refreshment room) for their use as a venue for ceremonies and events. These spaces will be used for new public restrooms, a new storage room, a food preparation room, and restrooms for staff.
- Structural consolidation of the refreshment room vault to ensure the redistribution of the new loads resulting from the presence of plant equipment located in the utility room on the first floor of the outbuildings.
- System upgrades in the areas of intervention, including the installation of new heating and air conditioning systems, the renovation of the electrical and lighting systems, and compliance with current fire safety regulations.
