OGO
Situated in the heights of the commune of Château-d’Oex in the Swiss Alps, the chalet is typical of the regional construction with its carved wooden beams and the outward appearance of the planks facade. As to preserve the quality of the exterior envelope, the project is completely developed from the inside.
The interior space is structured around a first gesture ; reunite the two separate floors by a main staircase, serving both as storage space and as a partition ; first on the ground floor between the circulation and the office/guest room and on the first floor between the kitchen and the dining room. These two living spaces are celebrated by a high ceiling, facing south and accessing the main balcony. A discreet metal scale gives access to the children playroom in the former attic. The layout of the plan is kept as simple as possible to allow for flexibility in future uses.
On the construction process, the owners had expressed their will for a responsible approach ; from the material used to the heating system or the water management.
The insulation is made of wood fibre wool, laid from the inside to keep demolition to a minimum and preserve the existing external appearance.
Rainwater is collected in a 7m3 tank, then filtered and reused in the toilets and washing machine.
Heating and hot water are provided by a boiler stove and thermal solar panel during the warmer months. It supplies the hydraulic floor radiators laid in all the spaces.
The design elements, including the kitchen, staircase, furniture and windows, are tailor-made by local joiners and carpenters, minimizing waste and unnecessary transport.
