PREFAB PAVILION FACING A CENTURIES-OLD CEDAR
Nestled in the garden of a family home in a residential neighborhood adjacent to a large industrial park, a small pavilion sits before a centuries-old cedar tree.
Its location and volume are determined by strict regulations, its internal configuration is governed by a geobiological study, and its construction system is a result of time and budget constraints.
An industrialized construction of prefabricated concrete is proposed, similar to that of the industrial buildings in the nearby park, adapting the system to the scale of residential use.
The possibilities of the prefabricated system are explored to the fullest, with special emphasis on corner junctions, panel assemblies, and the surface finishes of the concrete, resulting in an elegant, light-looking exterior that contrasts with a dense and profound interior bathed in light filtered through the textures of the concrete and oriented towards the existing cedar tree and garden. Measuring approximately 12 meters long and 10 meters wide, the pavilion subtly plays with conventions, employing a distinctly industrial construction system that contrasts with a refined and elegant vocabulary in its execution and finishes.
With a budget of €150,000, the pavilion was designed and manufactured in a workshop over six months, assembled in five days, and occupied three months later under the watchful gaze of the centuries-old cedar tree.
