This project involves converting a corrugated metal shed into a 110m2 residence centered around patios. The design preserves the industrial character of the structure while integrating modern features, optimizing natural light and ventilation, and aligning with the oceanic climate of Anglet.
A corrugated metal shed hides among traditional white Basque houses. It serves as a storage space for a small family co-ownership that has been established for three generations. Deborah, the youngest sister, wants to demolish it to build her main residence. Instead, the shed will be transformed into a home. This rusted shell is undergoing regeneration. Only its roof, reinforced to accommodate insulation, is partially removed to create skylights within the structure. The introverted house retains its industrial exterior. Natural light flows into every living space through the large patio windows. These green oases, landscaped for freshness, occasionally reconnect to the ground while providing essential sun protection for the oceanic climate. Three orientations illuminate the large central living space throughout the day and across seasons. The initially closed and compact structure finally breathes to welcome its first inhabitants.
