Auditorium Pierre Dutot
The project is a quest for harmony between the building and its natural environment.
From the park entrance, a clearing allows us to see the music school as a whole: the roof’s movement contained in an ascending curve, the thin black metal canopy in front of the large glazed entrance hall, the different volumes, the large windows in which people can sit and the dark, silky material of the facades.
The program:
The construction of a music school for 200 people with specific individual and collective practice rooms, service rooms and an auditorium for 80 people.
The creation of a public park with outdoor music practice areas.
The building site:
The building site showcases an impressive quality of vegetation, the project slips between the existing large pines without cutting down a single one.
A building interacting with the site:
The music school has been organized into several volumes that align with the various programmatic entities. This creates an opportunity for the park and the building to blend together, , visually enhanced by the large windows.
A building in movement:
The upward movement of the roofs allows the higher volume of the auditorium to blend in the shape of the building.
This curve also complements the surrounding landscape by playing with the verticality of the pines.
A “village” building:
Divided into different volumes, the music school is a “musical village”.
It paves the way for the future additions of new buildings, creating an emerging “cultural village”.
