Chickens’ Workshop
The project is located on the outskirts of the city of Cunha, 250km from São Paulo. We were asked to build a chicken coop, along with a workshop for woodworking.
When we arrived at the site, environmental agencies were cutting down eucalyptus trees that were at risk of falling on the homes of residents in the region. We saw this as a potential to build resources that could be used in the project, in order to transform what was previously a problem into an opportunity. For this, we spoke with local workers, specialists in cutting and treating trees, in order to produce the pillars, beams and roof of the new construction.
But how do chickens live?
As a first step, we built a basement raised off the ground to avoid problems with humidity and access by forest predators. From there, a sequence of wooden pillars and beams support a ceramic tile roof. As chickens like to sleep on a support raised from the ground, we made a window, which creates a horizon providing natural lighting and ventilation, so that the chickens can dream of their greatest desire, that is, to fly.
