Parkhaus Dolní Břežany
The construction of the parking house in Dolní Břežany is situated on a gently sloping plot. It appears to be placed on the land, bordered by family houses on two sides and adjacent to a road on the third.
It is carefully positioned so that all floors and ceilings follow the slope of the land without the need for excavation work.
The structure, accommodating 200 cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, also offers parking on the roof. It is designed slightly larger overall to provide comfort during times of heavy use.
The only construction material used for the parking garage is exposed concrete, which forms the ceilings, floors, and two flat perimeter walls. The third curved facade is covered with bent guardrails, showcasing the movement of cars both inside and outside the structure, symbolising motion itself.
From an architectural perspective, the building becomes a long exposure of space, and when driving by on the adjacent road, it creates a momentary pause in time, lasting just a few seconds.
The concrete walls adjacent to the family houses are equipped with "keyhole" windows made from welded segments of the same guardrails used on the curved facade. Their varying angles prevent the headlights of cars from dazzling the neighbouring houses.
The design of the building anticipates complete immersion in greenery. The garden in which it is set contains various types of trees, including fruit trees, climbing plants on the flat concrete walls, and water surfaces on the roof of the fire tank, which is also used for watering the garden.
