HOUSES S
Two single-family houses were built on three plots directly adjacent to a biotope with a stream as a sequence of elongated, narrow main structures with a gable roof and connecting ground-floor buildings.
Behind the homogeneous external appearance of the two buildings are different sized residential units with different equipment standards. The repetition of the cubature with its simple architectural language using white plastered facades and the white sheet metal roof forms a homogeneous ensemble that stands out clearly between the neighboring buildings and still meets the different requirements inside.
The cutouts in the perforated façades facing the street, which match the window frame material in their cladding, form covered vestibules for house entrances and garages. They connect the houses and at the same time separate them from each other giving a harmonious structure. The restrained color design gives the buildings a pleasant clarity and lightness.
Inside the owner-occupied house, a white-painted steel staircase winds from the basement to the attic. It creates a sculptural spatial structure through different flights of stairs, ceiling openings and alternating artificial and natural lighting. The ground floor is unexpectedly spacious with a living, dining and cooking area that flow openly into one another around a fireplace in the middle.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors with threshold-free transitions into the garden expand the light-flooded rooms and offer a view of the idyllic garden. On the upper floor, roof gardens and terraces above the one-story high parts of the building enhance the quality of the interior spaces. The gardens to the adjacent biotope form a unity in their design. The different building depths and building cuts enable terraces that allow privacy.
With a connection to the local district heating network, controlled ventilation with heat recovery, charging stations for electric cars and smart home equipment, the buildings meet the legal requirements above average.
