Ex Cinema Maestoso
The Ex Cinema Maestoso, built in 1912, has become over time a symbol of the city of Milan. Renovated in 1975 from the current property Italcine srl, the cinema continued its activity until 2007. Today the building reopens with a new collective function, becoming a sports centre for Virgin Active.
The project, which mixes both contemporary and 30’s vintage elements, gives back to the city a building that hosts a new sport centre and wellness centre.
The requalification project aimed at clearly defining the relationships among the different parts that compose the building. The front facade, with it round windows, recalls the 30’s, the entrance volume combines both vintage (marble) and contemporary (brass) materials, while the new-built room represents the renewal of the building and complete the project.
These three architectural sections are so bond in a single unity, which brings with itself almost a century of architecture, from the 30’s to nowadays.
