The new hall (52x24x9m) is located towards the Hohlstrasse amongst many listed buildings on the SBB repair center in Zurich-Altstetten. Rail cars or locomotives can be pushed under the hall roof using a transfer platform. The new roof offers space for storing wheelsets and recyclable materials. The steel framework of the roof structure rests only on six concrete supports. As a result, the support structure allows a high degree of flexibility for future uses. The shaping is entirely at the service of the cause. Details like the golden section of the facade proportions or the openwork sand-lime brick masonry of the small annex add a subtle design aspect to the construction. It can also be seen in the bush-hammered in-situ concrete supports or in the corrugated perforated sheet metal of the surrounding apron, which gives the building substance in its external appearance and is only a delicate veil from the inside.
