La Sucrerie
This project concerns the redevelopment of the site of La Sucrerie, the sugar refinery, which covers 1.86 hectares close to the town centre and the railway station in Ath. The industrial heritage which has been kept is a reminder of the site's past, but now fulfils new functions.
This project concerns the redevelopment of the site of La Sucrerie, the sugar refinery, which covers 1.86 hectares close to the town centre and the railway station in Ath. The industrial heritage which has been kept is a reminder of the site's past, but now fulfils new functions. The verdant, spacious setting for the new residential buildings is created by a whole series of public open spaces. The social dimension of the project is reinforced by the integration of several functions where social interaction is essential: besides the 183 residential units, a nursery, a neighbourhood centre, shops, an orchard and community vegetable gardens play a prominent role in the project.
