New lighting for the retables in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Cagliari
A new lighting design for the 14th and 15th century retables and panels exhibited in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Cagliari.
The lighting design for the retables and for the panels exhibited in the Pinacoteca Nazionale of Cagliari (datable between the 14th and 15th century), required several months of study, as it presented a few problems to be solved including: the large size of the altarpieces (in some cases more than 4 meters high and 3 meters wide); the reduced distance for the insertion of the lighting units; a too contrasting wall colouring with the artworks.
The design intervention, referring not only to the works but also to the context in which they are inserted, was therefore complex and detailed. Previous lighting, albeit with LED sources, presented numerous critical issues. The intervento aimed to improve the perception of the works through uniformity of illumination, a new coloring of the walls and backdrops of the retables, up to the use of customized devices and screens.
