ALLEGRINI AREA
Renovation project for the industrial area Allegrini s.p.a.
The project for the renewal of Allegrini industrial area belongs to the very topical subject of the historic-industrial restoration. Just as the spaces it has occupied up till now, Allegrini tells a story, a case in point of the industrial development in Bergamo.
In the past years the area expanded and grew bigger as the company did and the production system needs as well, so that become necessary to acquire some of the nearby industrial spaces.
What results today looks like a heterogeneous and disconnected assembly of huge productive buildings that do not fit the efficient and accurate industrial process anymore. Therefore a unifying vision for both company and architecture.
The strategic approach wanted to act detailed and related to the single components of the area, whilst having an overall scale. One of the main goals was giving a personal identity to the area, at first by renovating the former Hoval building, now the Allegrini logistic center, and then with site specific recladding interventions in the whole property.
The company functional and architectural renewal could be sum up in five levels.
Enhancing the technical components of the buildings through an expanded metal mesh wrapping that defines the silos areas.
Giving identity to the tech annexes or service spaces with an Alucobond sandwich panel cladding of the structure, coloured as the company brand and identifying each block by tall numbers.
An insulated coating for the main productive buildings, painted in dark grey in order to contrast and enhance the shiny metal pipelines and tubes for the raw material or products running all over the facades.
To connect and increase the efficiency of pathways through the Allegrini area, highlighting punctual quality spaces to enjoy while crossing the property, as well as allow visiting the production even maintaining accesses control.
Introducing vegetation elements in outdoor relax areas will increase the quality of working life, communicate a green economy intent and help balancing the correct proportion of draining surface.
Squares and outdoor floorings are designed using graphic elements with the additional signage function. This will help a more efficient articulation of routes in order to regulating vehicle or pedestrian fluxes.
The project also aims to extend these functional pathways inside the buildings as well, as the fascinating production processes can be shown to clients or suppliers like a museum exhibition.
The Allegrini area project doesn’t force the property to an invasive massive action, but aims to renovate it by an array of specific architectural acts that tells and enhance each complex component in a unifying vision.
