PROJECT OF A MUSEUM EXTENSION
Drôme — France
ARCHITECTS
Building by Y. Architectes
This project, requested by the Communauté d'Agglomération in Valence Romans Sud Rhône-Alpes, consists of the rehabilitation and extension of the Armenian Heritage Center, emblematic museum of the city of Valencia.
Located in the heart of the historic center, the integration of the project into its context was optimal, while still offering the presence and visibility that deserved this type of public building.
The project then proposes a treatment of all prefabricated concrete panel façades, in continuity with the historics moldings, reinterpreting however the Katchkar stones, typical of Armenian art, with fine masonry lace.
In order to best meet the programmatic expectations, the project is developing on 3 levels. Organized around the outdoor courtyard, thought as the continuity of the public space by hosting cultural representations in the summer, the museum offers these new users various additional activities.
The project now accommodates, in addition to the existing permanent exhibition area, a reception area, a relaxation area, temporary exhibition halls, an administrative center and a 98-seat auditorium.
