The amazing landscape of the south-western coast of Sardinia is the place where is located the winery project called Grape, developed by our collective.
The region is very famous for a large wine production, characterized by extensive wineyard lines surrounded by the blue Mediterranean sea.
The hills where the winery is located are a beautiful mix of artificial and natural landscapes.
Studying the area and the winery program we fixed on an interesting metaphor.
Making wine is a human activity trasforming a natural element like grape in a cultural and artificial element like wine.
We can say that making wine is a precise balance between nature and human beings. The south-western Sardinian landscape is an extremely beautiful site to assume this special condition.
Our proposal is a streight line crossing the existing topography.
The space is generated by the relation of the artificial line of architecture with the natural line of the topograhy.
The final result is a landscape covered promenade where all the spaces have a specific access to a buffer space that bring the visitor from the intense exterior light to the dark interior atmosphere of the production rooms.
The project could be read as delicate transition from the mediterranean light to the wine-production darkness. The winery works as a filter between inside and outside giving fresh and dark spaces for the wine without losing the peculiar atmosphere of this amazing site.
The program provides offices, production spaces, wine shops and some guest rooms to rent. Every space has been situated in relation with the topography. According to this idea, offices, wine shops and guest rooms, has been placed facing the amazing seaviews while all the production has been situated in the steepest part of the hill, where we could naturally provide the best temperature conditions.
Grape is more than an a wine factory, is a territorial project to better feeling the natural beauty of this place. The winery is a continuous balance between the artificial geometrical line of Architecture and the ever changing natural topography.
Grape is a dialogue between natural and artificial as wine is the result of a precise work from nature to human elements.
