Sportcentre "De Rozenburcht"
The serie shows the integration in, and the contrast of the building with the green surrounding of a park, and the zen like design of the interior.
The sports center is situated on the transition area of an existing residential area to the surrounding park, a green recreation area.
Within this context, a clear and worthy accentuation of the entrance to the village of Rozenburg has been designed, in which the all-round building volume has been carefully integrated into the green. Despite the single-layer volume, each facade has its own expression.
The main functions are easy to read in the façade, creating an alternating whole. The green brick, which was specially developed for the project, connects the adjoining buildings and allows the building to blend in with greenery. The sports center is self-evident and easy to set up. The clear structure results in a well-organized and easy-to-navigate building, for its many and diverse users. The building includes a sports hall with grandstand, a swimming pool, a multifunctional hall, a bar and other public areas. The environment and the layout of the building are also part of the assignment. It is not an icon that has been designed, but a building in which the architecture, the functions, the interior, the landscape and the outdoor spaces are designed as one coherent whole. This makes the sports center a 'strikingly inconspicuous' building.
The Sports Center has been nominated by the Association of Dutch Architects for the award Best Building of the Netherlands 2017.
