Boathouse
The boathouse with an integrated sauna replaces an existing, dilapidated wooden cabin with a shed roof and loggia towards south. Unlike the majority of nearby boathouses, the project‘s gable roof is not directed towards the water but towards the land. In doing so, it opens up a dialogue with the main house and the garden in the south. The gable also alienates the dimension of the building, turning the ancillary structure into a ‘home for a boat.’
In constructive terms, the brut concrete walls are thought of as an extension of the rammed ground foundation. They are covered with a light corrugated steel roof that protects the walls like a ruin. The large circular perforations enhance ventilation and formally juxtapose the vernacular approximations.
Direct and pure should be the experience of the lake with its sublime vistas and enigmatic water forces. In the interior, only the sauna and parts of its vestibule are clad in wood – a reminiscence (just like its small round apertures) of a ship cabin’s cozy atmosphere.
