Apartment Renovation A&A
This apartment is located on a building that, over the last century, has grown to its current three-story height. The disorderly growth of the building and the topography of the terrain in which it is found have led to volumes with external spaces at varying levels. The clients, a young couple with hopes of starting a family, were asking for bright and spacious spaces that were open, visible, and possessing a large storage area.
This apartment is located on a building that, over the last century, has grown to its current three-story height. The disorderly growth of the building and the topography of the terrain in which it is found have led to volumes with external spaces at varying levels.
The floor was divided into 3 edges: a first edge with 3 rooms facing the street exterior; the second inner edge where the dining room and bathrooms were placed; and the 3rd edge where the kitchen and living room were connected to the outside through the terrace.
The clients, a young couple with hopes of starting a family, were asking for bright and spacious spaces that were open, visible, and possessing a large storage area.
Given the existing floor configuration and initial conditions, this project sought to resolve the issues of the central space and the link between the two facades.
The central space is conceptualized as a space to transition between private and public areas. The strategy is to place the kitchen and the storage area in the center. The north side is to be used as a night area with 2 exterior rooms, a bathroom and an open study connected to the entrance area and kitchen. The south side, featuring the terrace, will be where the meeting and eating areas are located.
The kitchen is open, but by positioning the elements of its turns to one end, it allows for a hall space on the opposite end. This element is broken down to obtain visual contact points and allow for light to enter into the central area of the home.
The adopted solution to generate storage space is to equip the entire front wall of the kitchen. Through the geometric distribution of this element, we obtain a new framework that accompanies every movement and route of connection between spaces and that allows outer light to reach the center of the house.
The living and eating space is located on the south side, beside the kitchen. In this room, the existing opening is extended to the terrace to obtain more light surface and to enhance a stronger connection with the exterior
