ADAS Gallery
ADAS Gallery is located in the eastern part of Seyrantepe-İstanbul, where mostly housing and small manufacturing ateliers are located. In recent years, art facilities have tended to move away from city centers and dissipate into different parts of the city. The effect of this trend is also seen in the selection of the gallery location. The total size of the two storeyed gallery is 340m². The ground floor was previously used as a car repair shop. The upper floor was used as an office. The gallery is formed by combining these two floors.
The 5 storey apartment building where the gallery is located is only lighted from the northern facade. This northern entrance facade of the gallery is designed as a fully openable facade to take in large-scale artworks by vehicles. Designing the facade fully openable, enables a strong connection with the surrounding ateliers.
The interior design of the gallery is shaped around two main elements: First, to provide a space where exhibitions, workshops, launches and art talks can be held; secondly to provide a storage space for the artwork collection that will increase over time. For these purposes, the niche areas and edge corners of the space have been used as a storage space with huge dimensioned sliding doors. This method also provides integrity and continuity in the gallery space.
The gallery is designed in a very simple way with a concrete floor and gray and white walls. This simplicity allows the exhibits of different disciplines to be exhibited.
On the entrance floor of the gallery; apart from the exhibiton space, an open office and a library are designed, and also kitchenette and toilet are designed at the low ceiling under the main staircase of the apartment. On the upper floor, apart from the exhibition area, there is a large kitchen. This kitchen is positioned in relation with the exhibition area to make cooking workshops.
These two floors are connected to each other by a wire staircase covered with a glass roof. This semi transparent space creates the perception of users like objects hanging in the space.
