Perceptions
Christians, Buddhists, Islamists, Hinduists, Animists... All of these religions have a different concept, structure and fruition of the building, but they deeply follow the same common thread, the Faith. The RCC’s challenge is to find a dialogue between these religions.
The project focuses on the concept of perception of the space, light and dialogue. An essential element for believers is the perception of the space. Every man, regardless of his religion, has in fact a stereotype of the space in which to feel comfortable. From a narrow space in which the height predominates to a low and wide hypogeum, from a space with a residual light, dark and silent, to the sun-wet. The light, therefore, takes a considerable role in this project, an element that deals with matters and gives identity to the space.
A circular wooden structure circumscribes the project and divides the public space from the private one. The circle choice breaks the equilibrium with the square-edged space and, at the same time, creates harmony with the lines.
We choose to use only one material for the whole project, wood, with a single pillar / beam size of 10cm x 7.5cm, to define a shared public and private space with light openings and to create boxes with alternating pillars that works as walls and slabs. A box interconnection that allows to have an environment designed with the same material that is created from the residual spaces of the “matrioska boxes”, from the light that filters less and less towards the core, having different gradients.
