The Lesser Polish Eaves Cottage was designed for a family of four and inspired by traditional, wooden, eaves houses. Eaves and arcades were used to protect houses fronts from sun and rain. In the past, such a buildings were used to frame frontages of town squares, such as Lanckorona eaves wood houses that allows you to communicate on the rain protected paths.
Working on the Lesser Polish Eaves Cottage, we had to follow local strict regulations that allows to build only two storeys house covered with a ridge roof. The second floor had to be a garret accordingly to the regulations. Despite binding of such restrictive law, we were able to take the most advantage of the picteresque plot on a southern hillside to create an interesting house structure, that fits to the landscape. Inside the building we managed to separate five different floor levels.
At the entrance, the ground floor is linked to the ground level outside the building. Kitchen and dinning room are located slightly below and the living room even lower, that gives a high ceiling space inside. By following the natural topography of the land, we created interiors wide opened that connects the inside and outside of the building. At the boundry of living and dinning room, right in the center of the house, we designed an open fireplace and a seat build up of several steps.
In the south part of the 1st floor we created a simple, lofty space of a master bedroom. The north part is divided into smaller rooms with mezzanines.
