New-style hypermarket “Gorod Dverey”
Opening the “Gorod Dverey” new-style hypermarket gave a push to creating large-scale shopping premises which finally eliminated the archaic conventionalities in displaying modern door products.
The key ideas of the project are:
- a radically innovative approach to usage of display equipment;
- thorough functional planning: nothing but usable space;
- maximal recycling: reusing materials to protect the environment.
The shopping premises are divided into several functional zones creating a comfortable work environment for nearly thirty employees of the hypermarket.
The first floor:
- a retail zone: an entrance hall where managers meet the visitors;
- a showroom with nearly 300 display models;
- a guest zone for express negotiations (up to 10 people);
- a lecture room with a projection screen (up to 50 people) for corporate seminars and other important events;
- a children’s area for drawing where kids can play while parents watch the products;
- a library where architects, civil engineers and designers can look through the newest catalogues and professional books over a cup of coffee;
- an enhanced comfort zone for employees with a mini kitchen, lockers for personal belongings as well as spacious sanitary facilities and showers.
The second floor:
- a conference zone where internal meetings take place;
- the administration section of the hypermarket.
Unpolished metal, wood and glass prevail among the materials. The project illustrates a string of extravagant decisions in terms of recycling. An apt example of this is the racking equipment which would have become scrap metal had it not been noticed and used for building most of the metal parts, e.g., the second floor platform. By the way, the total weight of the metal used is 17 tons! The strong bulletproof glass around the hypermarket cashier’s counter is also a product of reincarnation. It used to belong to a bank and was purchased at an auction. As a result, the ordering party’s costs were saved, and the industrial interior design ideas were followed through.
